Be Part of the Lasting Solution: Train African, Asian, and Latin American Leaders
Representing a broad spectrum of ages and professional backgrounds, Lifewater's volunteer field trainers help empower people in Africa, Asia, and Latin America become all that God made them to be. Traveling in small teams of three or four, field trainers help Lifewater train staff members of in-country partner organizations in WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene education) so that they can in turn assist and empower local communities.
Lifewater field trainer trips are generally three to four weeks long. Upon return, field trainers serve as agents of inspiration and change by sharing with friends, church families, and broader communities about what God is teaching them.
While wells and latrines are essential, simply installing them does not bring lasting improvements to people’s quality of life. In contrast, when local communities gain the skills, resources, and confidence they need to care for their own water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) resources, their quality of life improves dramatically. Lifewater field trainers help make this happen. Consider becoming one of these important volunteers!
“The most memorable aspect of my participation in a WASH promotion training in Uganda was seeing the health promoters we taught put what they learned into practice in the villages. We were able to watch them – community members themselves – teach WASH to their neighbors. The local people were hungry to know how to improve their health through clean water, new hygiene practices, and ways to keep their clean water safe. The people were also hungry for the spiritual food to help their communities have hope in Christ Jesus through the word of God . . . Coming home this time, I felt a sense of hope. On previous trips I felt overwhelmed by the enormous need in our world. This time, I could see that we are making a difference one community at a time.” Sue Morris, Lifewater field trainer
“My participation in a hand pump repair training course in northern Uganda taught me that I
can learn as much or more from our partners as I am teaching them. I found it
so encouraging to see our partner’s staff in action with the villagers we were
serving . . . I was led time and time
again to Philippians 2:1-8. This scripture ties service together with humility.
It is all too easy for Americans to get puffed up when they are serving in a
place like Uganda and begin to think they deserve special recognition, which
our partners are often all too willing to give. This passage helped me to focus
on what a true servant’s heart looks like and how it acts.” Doug Hedrick, Lifewater field Trainer
