Significant Sacrifice: An Easter Journey
is a project, usually done during the forty days of Lent, that includes a compelling devotional with weekly readings, reflection questions, and prayers designed to focus our attention on Christ’s ultimate sacrifice while encouraging us to share Christ’s concern for the poor.

Choose one activity to either begin or end for the time period you choose to go through the devotional. For example, past participants have given up coffee, refrained from shopping, or commuted to work by bike. Use the weekly devotionals (click image at left to preview the latest edition) to help you reflect on the meaning of the season and encourage one another. Wear purple Signficant Sacrifice wristbands to remind yourselves of your commitments. After you finish, celebrate together as you bring the offerings you have collected as a result of your personal sacrifice during the past weeks to give so that others can have safe water. It is not easy, but past participants have been amazed at how their relationship with God and their view of the world changed during that time.

Significant Sacrifice Activities for Families: This year, Lifewater is offering a fun, 40-day Significant Sacrifice activity for families and other small groups that include children. The target group is primary school children. Children are invited to listen to a Bible passage, fill in the blanks of a sentence with missing words, and engage in an interactive giving activity. At the end, children decode an important message using their work from the previous forty days and count up the coins they have contributed to donate. Just $35 provides a child with safe water for life, so think of how many lives we can touch if numerous children participate in this activity!
