Lifewater International, a four-star charity on Charity Navigator, currently employs twelve full-time and part-time staff dedicated to ensuring that our operations are worthy of the trust our supporters and partners have placed in us. As individuals, we have a passion for serving others. Collectively, we have hundreds of years experience in water development, international development, education, and business.


Chief Executive Officer: Joe Harbison

With over thirty years of experience in international development, Joe appreciates the opportunity to focus on helping people gain safe water. He said, “I learned early on that one of the best ways to assist rural communities with health and social issues is to secure a reliable water source.” With extensive field experience, Joe has served in senior leadership positions with World Concern, Compassion International, and World Vision in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Jerusalem and Nairobi. He holds an MA in Cross Cultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, and is completing his Doctor of Ministry degree from the same institution.

Chief Finance Officer: Mary Sanderson

Mary brings nearly two decades of career experience in many cultures and countries. She has lived in Bolivia, Kenya, and Thailand and served as Asia Area Finance Manager and Finance and Complians Manager for World Concern. She holds a Global MBA from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC). In her free time, she enjoys traveling to learn about other cultures and discovering great beaches.

East Africa Director: Zerihun Hailu 

 Zerihun has many years of experience in senior leadership of church-based community development efforts in East Africa. He has worked in the areas of WASH, food security, renewable energy, and community-based child development. He holds an MS in management of natural resources and sustainable agriculture from Norway and has been published in several international journals.

Partnership Director: Pat Klever

Pat began volunteering at Lifewater in 1990 and came on staff in 1999. A registered professional geologist, Pat has many years of experience working in water programs, hydrology, and earth science technology at major companies and government agencies. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Sciences from Montana State Universtiy and her M.S. in Natural Resource Management from the University of Montana.
