Lifewater works in close partnership with qualified in-country Christian development
organizations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to achieve long-term solutions to the
water and sanitation crisis. This participatory course introduces partners to important
community development principles from a holistic perspective. The course emphasizes spiritual and physical transformation, capacity building, participatory learning, and community-led development. It offers biblical perspectives on development, explains disease transmission and blocking, and introduces key components of a community project cycle and participatory methodology. The partners learn valuable participatory assessment and planning tools to use when working with communities. The course is successful when participants recognize the efficacy of participatory approaches, feel empowered to use participatory tools, understand how cultural issues affect projects, appreciate the Bible’s relevance to community development, and get inspired to train others.
