Has Adequate Sanitation: 32 percent of total population; 19 percent of the rural population

Religion: 24 percent Catholic, 18 percent Zionist Christian, 18 percent Muslim, 11 percent other non-Catholic Christians

National Wealth: Creative cultural expression in song, poetry, and dance; GDP growth for the past ten years; extensive arable uncultivated land

National Challenges: Civil strife; drought causing migration to cities and coastal areas; desertification; lack of safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education.

Lifewater: Lifewater started partnerships in Mozambique in 1995. In 2006 Lifewater trained partners in well drilling and hand pump repair and supported a partner’s efforts to establish a new water development organization.
