Lifewater Welcomes Uganda Country Director

New position a strategic step to expansion of global programs.

Lifewater International, a 501(c)3 non-profit Christian water development organization dedicated to effectively serving vulnerable children and families with safe water, sanitation, and hygiene since 1977, is pleased to announce the appointment of Edward Mubiru as the organization’s new Country Director in Uganda.

As Country Director, Edward is responsible for continuing Lifewater’s work to improve the quality of life for vulnerable children and families living in rural Uganda through the world-class implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Lifewater’s missional water access, sanitation, and hygiene (mWASH) programs. He leads a team of field offices and partners, regularly visiting communities to ensure consistent and quality outcomes.

“Bringing Edward Mubiru onto our team is a strategic step in hiring quality national leaders who will oversee our field office expansion in key countries,” said Justin Narducci, Lifewater’s CEO/President. “We are committed to making a lasting difference, and Edward’s substantial experience in integral mission and monitoring impact over time brings our capacity in Uganda to a new level.” “Edward has also built effective teams in both the United States and East Africa, so Lifewater’s work in Uganda is poised to scale up and serve more people in more regions as well.”

Since 1977, Lifewater International’s program has:

  • Worked with individuals to improve lives in over 40 countries
  • Helped over 2.5 million people realize safe water, sanitation and hygiene – often for the first time
  • Trained over 400,000 community members to better equip themselves against unsafe water

In 2014, alone, Lifewater International:

  • Provided 43,000 people with safe water, with over 7,000 in rural Uganda
  • Helped 88,000 people realize new forms of sanitation solutions; 19,000 in northern Uganda
  • Helped over 89,000 people achieve new levels of hygiene at the personal and household levels that were previously unknown
  • Trained over 30,000 local leaders on the benefits of clean and hygienic water

“As Uganda Country Director, I am eager to promote the mission and vision of Lifewater, serving families and communities to overcome water poverty,” says Edward. “True human transformation is ultimately the work of God among His people and we are called to be co-workers with Christ in the world; my heart and deep experience has led me to this team. I am excited to use my knowledge, skills, and experience to serve communities in Africa with safe water and sanitation. Our work is also my passion.”

Prior to joining Lifewater International, Edward Mubiru served at World Vision International for 14 years, where he served in national and regional leadership positions for transformational development, program quality, business analysis, and information systems. He holds an MBA from Eastern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Makerere University in Uganda. He is currently pursuing a Doctor in Strategic Leadership.
