Spring Capping and Protection
In hilly or mountainous areas, water flows naturally from underground to the surface creating springs, which are used for drinking water around the world. In developing countries, undeveloped springs and the areas around them easily become contaminated by animals who come to drink and by people who wash clothes, take baths and muddy the waters. Spring improvements “capture” the spring source, typically divert it to a tap, and thus protect the spring source from disruption and contamination. The environment immediately above and around the spring need to be protected and in many cases are fenced off to protect the source from trampling, pollutants and other damaging factors.
